Our Book’s Principles
Our books are developed based on ten thoughtful principles we have delineated in our strategy and approach. They are our foundation in how we create our products. We group them in 3 major sections: inspiration and delight for the entire family, making knowledge an adventure, and getting to know the world.
A book that delights and inspires the entire family
-
Loved by parents and families
We read to our children daily, and many times the same favourite books more times than we can count. We wanted to create a book that parents love to read as well, and potentially also even learn something from it. A reading experience that paves the way to enjoyable family reading and learning together.
-
Positive feelings only
The story is an adventure, where we took special care in conveying positive feelings. It does not have frightening, saddening or unpleasant elements. Moreover, it is rhymed, sounding musical and pleasant to the ears of younger children. The book aims to inspire, build confidence and delight children about learning.
-
Inspire children and families
It is said that “for the young the days go fast and the years go slow”. Young families have so much to do in a day that it needs to be a conscious choice to remember to find inspiration in our everyday life. Families and children moreover need to be inspired to read, learn, create, dream big, let their imagination roam and have the faith to fulfil their dreams.
“A book that the entire family can learn from”
Making knowledge an adventure
Traditional learning can sometimes feel blunt, and classical subjects a duty to fulfil, rather than a choice to make. We aimed to make learning an adventure and bring joy back into it; a journey on the back of a book around the world learning about discoveries, understanding what they mean, and how they relate to the natural world around us.
Getting to know the world
-
Grow with the children
The book is written in rhyme so it can be pleasantly read starting already from birth, while the concepts introduced will be interesting also for children of 8-9 as well as the entire family. At different ages and stages of development children will be able to comprehend the concepts in the book to different depths, starting from simple introductions to the concepts and expanding to a more thorough understanding as they grow.
-
Introduce science
We want to make science approachable from a young age and relatable to notions of every day life, such as the sand on the beach or the night sky. By introducing complex theories in simple terms, and the people who discovered them, we aspire to make learning about science and understanding the world around us a joy.
-
Look at classical handmade art
We believe that children are born creative. We wanted to have light, classic, illustrations in the book to balance the formality of science and weight of centuries of knowledge. The artwork is handpainted in traditional aquarelle and carefully developed to delight children’s eyes and imagination.
-
Travel around the world
By turning the pages of the book you will embark on a journey in time and to places around the world. You will visit monuments and countries where discoveries were made, see the Earth from different viewpoints, and understand how traveling and reading expand the world in children’s minds.
-
Familiarise with academic institutions
Renowned academic institutions hold an air of mystery and mastery. We extended a glimpse into their surroundings and centuries of learning. The University of Oxford is portrayed in our series “Albert Goes to Oxford,” so young children reading the story can relate to “the city of dreaming spires”.
