Art activities

From coloring and arts and crafts, all the way to classical music and concerts, delve into the beautiful world of art.

Color two scenes of the book

Did you read the book and you would like to recreate, or re-imagine the scenes with your own colors? Download two of our illustrations to color, and spend time learning or identifying some of the book’s renowned landmarks.

King of the day

Print, cut, and assemble Albert’s crown and become King of the Kingdom of Books for the day! Choose between a crown like in the book, or a crown you can color yourself with any colors you like! From playing at home, to a reading event, to a birthday party activity, create your very own crown, just like Albert’s!

Sandbox

Let your creativity work wonders on the sand, just like in a sandbox! Draw with your fingers, or with a stick, and make art together with your children! Experiment and feel the resistance of the sand, how differently it reacts when it’s dry or moist, and how the waves wash it away. Enjoy drawing shapes, flowers, vehicles, words, science, or anything else you can dream of! Combine art and science while being out in nature, explore the shades from the sun and let the imagination lead you to a beautiful world of learning.

Listen to classical music developed for children

Some classical music pieces are developed for children’s stories and make it especially engaging for them to listen to. Pieces like this include “The Peter and the Wolf” by Sergei Prokofiev and “Nutcracker” by Pyotr Tchaikovsky.

A friend was inspired to start learning how to play the piano from the Cat Concerto, the classic cartoon video where Tom plays the Hungarian Rapsody Nr. 2 of Franz Liszt on piano and Jerry playfully tries to interrupt him

Attend Kid’s Series Concerts

Find kid related concerts and take your children to experience music in person. In the picture on the left is an example of the “Under the Sea” concert, presented by the Oregon Symphony in 2022 at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall in Portland, Oregon, US. Try to find activities that are music related so they can be introduced to yet another wonderful world of learning and music.

If you play musical instruments, play in front of your children. If grandparents or friends play, ask them to play as well so your children can listen and be introduced to music. Find music teachers or music schools.

Remember that the point here is not to push children towards music, but to give them the opportunity to discover the wonderful world of music and learning. Let them experiment listening to the notes, the instruments and the melodies - and even create some of their own!
